In Natalya Corner's world there is no Canada, United States, or Mexico; the only thing that remains of North America is the Nut. In the society of the Nut, Mutes, special people who can control their natural element, are illegal. Ever since she was five Natalya has known that she's different. The way her eyes glow bright blue and the way she feels the pull toward the water when she's near it; likes she's a part of it, like she can control it. But her life's never been easy. She's always had to hide the fact she's a Mute. She knew she couldn't hide it for long; not while she's criticized at school, beaten at home, and tortured over all. So when the Nut captures her, Natalya knows why. As the Nut uses her and destroys her life she realizes that there's more to what's happening than she's being told. She slowly uncovers a secret better left hidden. A dark secret that, if not contained, will change her life, the Nut, and the history of the world all together. So with help from a few uncommon friends Natalya must try and find her way home.
